Tina Turner's son Ike Turner Jr. dies, aged 67

Tina and Ike Turner's son Ike Turner Jr. has died. He was 67.

The son of the two music stars passed away on Saturday 4 October, one day after his birthday.

His death was confirmed by the late Tina Turner's niece Jacqueline Bullock in a statement.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my cousin, Ike Turner, Jr.," it reads, per the New York Post.

"Junior was more than a cousin to me, but rather a brother, as we grew up in the same famed household together."

No official cause of death has been confirmed but TMZ reports that, according to Bullock, he died from kidney failure.

Bullock told the outlet that his health had been declining for some time and he recently suffered a stroke.

"As the son of Tina and Ike Turner, from an early age, his talents were evident as there wasn't an instrument he did not want to play," Bullock's statement of Ike Jr's death continued.

"While he favoured the drums early on, my aunt and his mother, Tina Turner, insisted that he break down his drum kit after each practice. This led him to favour the keys.

"Eventually, Junior would end up helping to run Bolic Sound Studios, the recording studios founded by his father, Ike Turner."

"While he faced the same challenges that many of us have, he would become a sought after sound engineer, musician, and Grammy winner for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2007 for his father's 'Risin' With The Blues,'" Bullock added.

Tina and Ike Sr. were parents to four children together. Tina adopted Ike Sr.'s two sons, Ike Jr and Michael, from his previous with Lorraine Taylor before welcoming their first and only child together, Ronnie Turner.

Tina was also mum to her son Raymond Craig, whom she welcomed with Raymond Hill.

Tina and Ike Sr. went on to marry in 1962. They were married for 16 years before separating in 1976 and finalising their divorce in 1978.

Ike Sr., the American musician and record producer, died of a drug overdose in 2007 at the age of 76.

Meanwhile, Tina, the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll' passed away in May 2023, aged 83.

Ike Jr. is also preceded in death by his two brothers, Craig, who died by suicice in 2018 and Ronnie, who died following complications from colon cancer in 2022.

Ike Jr. grew up amid his parents whirlwind career and worked briefly as his mum's sound producer after his parents split.

In recent years, he remained largely out of the spotlight.
