'More at ease': The 'heartbreaking' decision that has brought 'peace' to Bruce Willis and his family amid his health battle
Despite receiving unwelcome backlash for doing so, Emma Heming Willis says, while difficult, moving her husband Bruce Willis into his own home has been a great decision for the whole family.
"Everything just feels a lot calmer, more at ease now," she said in a new interview with People.
Heming Willis explained that Willis' frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis "requires a calm and serene atmosphere" – something that his own place has made possible.

The new place, which Heming Willis says is the family's "second home", is a nearby one-story property designed specifically for his needs with access to round-the-clock care.
Heming Willis first revealed the decision to the public on ABC's Diane Sawyer Special last week.
She explained that it "was one of the hardest decisions that [she's] had to make so far" but that the aim was to create a safer, calmer environment for Willis and it's worked.
"It's heartbreaking to me. But this is how we were able to support our whole family, [and] it has opened up Bruce's world," Heming Willis told People.

It has also allowed their daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, to be their full selves at home and embrace being kids.
"We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs," she said.
"The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing."

It's also allowed Heming Willis to embrace life as Willis' husband again and not solely his caregiver.
"I get to go back to being Bruce's wife and the kids can be kids and there's beauty in that and I'm so grateful for that."

After revealing the family's decision, shared a post to Instagram in which she revealed the criticism she's faced from the public.
"The opinions are so loud and they're so noisy. But if they don't have the experience of this, they don't get a say," she said in the video.
"Too often, caregivers are judged quickly and unfairly by those who haven't lived this journey or stood on the front lines of it," she elaborated.
"Sharing openly may invite opinions, but more importantly, it creates connection and validation for those actually navigating the realities of caregiving every day."
