'I'm going to say what I want to say': Brian Cox lets loose on Margot Robbie, Jeremy Strong in blistering interview

A veritable roll-call of A-list actors have been the target of a veteran actor's blistering tirade – and Australia's Margot Robbie was not spared from the no-holds-barred onslaught.

In an interview with The Times, actor Brian Cox unleashed on a number of Hollywood heavyweights including Quentin Tarantino, Edward Norton and Margot.

Cox slammed the Aussie star's casting as Cathy in the latest adaptation of Wuthering Heights the 1939 version is one of his favourite movies.

"Keith Cliff! It's me, Cathy!'" Cox mocked Robbie in a faux-Aussie accent. "'How ya doing, Keith? Awright?' 'Yeah, I'm awright!'"

Following the scathing impersonation, Cox went on to add that "Margot Robbie is far too beautiful for that role."

"I mean, I think there should be something more of the Gypsy about her but it's wrong of me to judge," he added. "It may be a brilliant film."

And the Emmy-Award-winner did not stop there.

Seemingly no actors or directors were spared from his gruelling assessment; with Fight Club star Edward Norton described as a "pain in the arse," Kevin Spacey a "stupid, stupid man," Quentin Tarantino "meretricious," Michael Caton-Jones "a complete arsehole" and David Hare a "see you next Tuesday."

Cox also alluded to his distaste for method acting, delving into his Succession co-star Jeremy Strong's decision to implement the technique while filming.

Strong, who played Cox's on-screen son in the hit series, approached the role in a way that Cox described as "b-------."

"He's a good actor, Jeremy. He's a wonderful actor. It's just all the b------ that goes with it. You watch children – they don't say, 'What's my motivation?' They just do it!"

It's not the first time the outspoken actor has shared his candid thoughts on fellow stars.

The Scot labelled Johnny Depp as "overrated," expressing relief at having turned down the role of Elizabeth Swan's father in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Also taking aim at Hollywood great Ian McKellen, Cox claimed his former X-Men co-star's acting was "not to his taste."

He's since revealed that while his blunt opinions on fellow A-listers had not landed him in hot water yet, his wife, Nicole Ansari-Cox, had attempted to warn him against being too upfront about his thoughts.

"My wife keeps saying, 'Brian, be careful. Brian, be careful.'

Cox added, "I think, 'F--k it, I don't want to be careful anymore! I'll be 80 this year. F--k it! I'm gonna say what I want to say.'"
