Lost star Evangeline Lilly reveals she has brain damage after concussion, traumatic brain injury

Actress Evangeline Lilly has revealed a traumatic brain injury which has affected her health in a video.

The 46-year-old shared the results of the brain scans she told her fans she was having in the post.

"The results came back from the scans, and almost every area in my brain is functioning at a decreased capacity," the actress, best known for Lost said.

"So, I do have brain damage from the TBI, traumatic brain injury, – possibly other factors going.

"But now my job is to get to the bottom of that with the doctors, embark on the hard work of fixing it, which I don't look forward to because I feel like hard work is all I do<' she said. "But that's okay."

She did share one upside of the experience.

"My cognitive decline since I smashed my face open has helped me to slow down and helped me to have a more restful finish to my 2025," she said.

"I think this was the calmest, most restful Christmas holiday I have had maybe since I had children, so 14 years ago. So that's a good thing.

The Lost star told her fans she was "feeling extraordinarily grateful, blessed to be able to play one more day, one more year on this beautiful living planet.

She finished what she said was a "concussion update" with a message to her fans: "Thank you all for caring."

In her caption, she added, "Comforting to know my cognitive decline isn't just peri-menopause, discomforting to know what an uphill battle it will be to try to reverse the deficiencies. Thank you all for always asking, for always caring, and for your continued prayers."

The Ant-Man actress revealed in May 2025 she had was hurt injuries after she fainted at a beach and "fell face first into a boulder."

She wrote on Instagram: "At the hospital, the nurses and doctor went straight into action, more determined to find the cause of my blackout than to stitch up the hole punctured into my face by the rock. I smiled wryly at them. 'You won't find anything.' I said with a woozy voice."

Famous friends as well as fans wrote messages of support.

"You are a warrior," Michelle Pfeiffer wrote, "Nothing-not even this will defeat you my friend."

Musician Raiatea Helm said, "Awww cousin, praying for you and the doctors. We hope to visit soon! Ke aloha nui."

"I am glad to hear that you are finding peace in this difficult experience, and I will be thinking of you. ❤️" said another friend.

One fan wrote, "No Evangeline no ...This is the saddest news I could have in this new year. I'm crying for you. I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart, please, Evangeline, fight with all your strength. Don't give up."

According to the Mayo Clinic, a traumatic brain injury "usually results from a violent blow or jolt to the head or body" and can "affect your brain cells temporarily... result in bruising, torn tissues, bleeding and other physical damage to the brain," which can result in long-term complications or even death.
