George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney become French citizens

George Clooney and Amal Clooney are officially French citizens.

The couple, who relocated to a countryside property in the south of France back in 2021, have been granted their French citizenship.

Their eight-year-old twins Ella and Alexander have also been granted citizenship.

Their citizenship was confirmed in a naturalisation decree, dated December 27 and published in the French government's official journal.

George and Amal bought a sprawling wine estate, named Domaine Le Canadel, for a reported $8.3million in August 2021.

The property is located near the town of Brignoles in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France.

The couple, who wed in Italy, have been living with their kids on the French property since relocating to France.

"You know, we live on a farm in France. A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it," George explained in a recent interview with Esquire.

"But now, for them, it's like – they're not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in."

Clooney has revealed that the decision to raise their kids in France was partly due to his concerns about what a life in the constant Hollywood spotlight would have looked like.

"They have a much better life. I was worried about raising our kids in LA, in the culture of Hollywood," he told the publication.

"I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at like. France – they kind of don't give a shit about fame. I don't want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don't want them being compared to somebody else's famous kids".
