Beyoncé is officially a billionaire, making her the fifth musician to reach the nine-digit mark

Beyoncé has officially reached billionaire status.

The Single Ladies singer, 44, has joined her husband Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen and Rihanna as the fifth musician on the Forbes list of global billionaires.

The publication reports the achievement is largely due to her successful Cowboy Carter Tour, which grossed more than $US400million ($615 million) in ticket sales alone.

Another $US50 million ($74 million) was brought in by merchandise, while her previous Renaissance World Tour also raked in a pretty penny.

Beyoncé's value is also tightly connected to her music, which – like Taylor Swift – she almost completely controls herself.

"When I decided to manage myself, it was important that I didn't go to some big management company," the singer said during a 2013 interview promoting her self-titled album, Beyoncé.

"I felt like I wanted to follow the footsteps of Madonna and be a powerhouse and have my own empire and show other women when you get to this point in your career you don't have to go sign with someone else and share your money and your success – you do it yourself."

Beyoncé also did a special halftime show for Netflix's first Christmas Day NFL game, which raked in around $US50 million ($74 million).

Her appearance in Levi's commercials also drew in an estimated $US10 million ($14 million).

The rest of the celebrity billionaire club remains tight knit.

Forbes cites Jerry Seinfeld, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dick Wolf, Steven Spielberg, Tyler Perry, LeBron James, Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey, Peter Jackson, Magic Johnson and George Lucas among those who have achieved the elite status.
