Bruce Willis' kids are already 'grieving' their dad amid his health challenges

Bruce Willis' kids are already grieving their dad after his diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.

Speaking with Vogue Australia, the actor's wife Emma Heming Willis, who has been acting as Bruce's carer, revealed the toll his health journey has had on their children.

"I think they're doing well, all things considered. But it's hard," Emma told the publication of their daughters Mabel Ray, 14, and Evelyn Penn, 11, who were 10 and eight when their dad was first diagnosed.

"They grieve. They miss their dad so much. He's missing important milestones. That's tough for them," she continued.

"But kids are resilient. [Although] I used to hate hearing that because people didn't understand what we were walking through.

"I don't know if my kids will ever bounce back. But they're learning, and so am I."

Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, and retired from his acting career. This was followed a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis in 2023.

The actor's family have rallied around him as he continues to navigate the challenges of the diagnosis.

Update on Bruce Willis' health battle

Emma recently revealed Bruce is now living in his own home, close to the one he and Emma shared with their two children.

The new place, which Emma says is the family's "second home", is a nearby one-story property designed specifically for his needs with access to round-the-clock care.

Emma first revealed the decision to the public on ABC's Diane Sawyer Special in August.

She explained that it "was one of the hardest decisions that [she's] had to make so far" but that the aim was to create a safer, calmer environment for Willis and it's worked.

"It's heartbreaking to me. But this is how we were able to support our whole family, [and] it has opened up Bruce's world," Emma told People.

It has also allowed their daughters to be their full selves at home and embrace being kids.

"We have two young children, and it was just important that they had a home that supported their needs and that Bruce could have a place that supported his needs," she told the publication.

"The kids can have playdates and sleepovers [again] and not have to walk around tiptoeing."
