'Success is never guaranteed': Gal Gadot addresses political comments about Snow White flop

Gal Gadot has addressed her recent remarks about how she believes celebrities being "pressured" to uphold anti-Israel sentiment contributed to her recent film Snow White being a box office flop.

"I was honoured to join an extraordinary interview with inspiring interviewers, whose questions go straight to the heart," the actress wrote in an Instagram statement.

In the post, the 40-year-old actress was referring to her recent appearance on Israeli program The A Talks which has since circulated on social media.

"Sometimes we respond to questions from an emotional place," she continued.

"When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticised me in a very personal, almost visceral way.

"They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That's the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question."

Gadot, who is Israeli, added that she believes, "the film didn't fail solely because of the external pressures".

"There are many factors that determine why a film succeeds or fails, and success is never guaranteed," she added.

Speaking in her interview with The A Talks, Gadot expressed that she felt disappointed the film was not a box office success and shared that she believes anti-Israel sentiment played a part.

"I have to say first off, I really enjoyed filming this movie," she began, per The Jerusalem Post.

"I was sure that this movie was going to be a huge success, and then October 7 happened and what's happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood, is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel."

On October 7 2023, Hamas launched a terror attack on Israel, killing around 1200 people and taking around 250 hostages into the Gaza strip.

Since then, the ongoing Gaza war has led to the death of tens of thousands of people.

"You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening and what the reality is here [in Israel]," Gadot continued.

"But in the end, people decide for themselves. I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.

"That's how it goes. You win some, you lose some."

The live action remake of the classic children's film had a slow opening weekend and failed to reach it's goal of $100 million at the box office, per The Hollywood Reporter.
