Britney Spears' rep addresses claims of 'erratic' behaviour at LA restaurant

Britney Spears' rep has addressed claims she behaved "erratically" at a recent dinner outing where she was seen wielding a knife.

In a statement released to PEOPLE, the spokesperson denied these claims, saying the events of that evening had been "completely blown out of proportion."

The rep stated that while at dinner with her assistant and bodyguard, Britney had simply "told a story about how her dog was barking at neighbours," and that this had been taken out of context.

"At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife. She was cutting her hamburger in half," the rep clarified.

"This [is a] constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person."

The rep went on to say that the discourse surrounding Spears was "ridiculous, and it needs to stop now."

Prior to the statement being released, TMZ reported that Spears had been at the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks when she allegedly began "screaming" and "barking."

A customer at the restaurant also alleged that the Toxic singer had at one point passed by their table holding a knife.

Taking to social media platform X, entertainment Journalist Jeff Schneider claimed to be present and seated next to Spears at the time of the incident, and shared an eyewitness account of the evening.

"I am having dinner next to Britney Spears right now and it's a WILD experience," Schneider wrote.

"She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke…"

This latest alleged incident comes after a recent DUI charge led to Spears' voluntary admittance to a rehabilitation centre.

Spears' rep previously confirmed the news to multiple US outlets, describing the move as a "long overdue" first step for the pop star.

Following her arrest, Spears had reportedly been "working on herself" – remaining sober and attending a number of AA meetings in the aftermath.

The pop singer had originally been taken into custody after being pulled over near her California home, but was later released after just three hours.

According to audio from an emergency call made to California police obtained by Us Weekly, Spears' car had been driving "in and out of lanes" and speeding.

"This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," a spokesperson for Spears shared in a statement following her release from police custody.

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life."

"Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time." They added.
