It's likely that Turner will return to the set in two weeks, with crew to still be paid and keeping busy with prep work until filming resumes.

A source told the US Sun that the Game of Thrones star had a pre-existing back injury that progressed due to long hours on set, after filming for the series started in January.

"Sophie has been throwing herself into the role, but the gruelling physicality of being Lara Croft has meant she has pushed her body too far," the insider said.

Tuner's back problem first emerged last year during training.

In January she opened up about her "perpetual back problem" which she learned about during her months-long training routine last year.

"We've been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it's been a lot," she said on The Julia Cunningham Show

When talking about the gruelling training she said "it's much easier to kind of build muscle if you've ever worked out before in your life."

"Which I never had," she admitted.

"So it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That's what I've learned."
