Former Disney child star Christy Carlson Romano shares tearful health update in the wake of James Van Der Beek's death
Former Disney Channel child star Christy Carlson Romano has shared a tearful health update with fans, revealing a positive cancer screening test recently.
Romano, who rose to fame in the early noughties series Even Stevens alongside Shia LaBeouf, revealed in the wake of fellow Texan James Van Der Beek's cancer battle she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, had tests done.
The 41-year-old mother-of-two, who had been recovering from being accidentally shot in the face in an incident last year, revealed to fans she also had a family history of cancer so wanted to be proactive.
"My husband's [results] came back completely negative... mine did not come back negative," she revealed.
Romano revealed she was going for a PET scan to get more details on the type of cancer she might have but said she was "fighting with companies" to get the scan "covered".
"I live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch," she said, pausing as the tears flowed.
Romano said the late Dawson's Creek star's family - including wife Kimberly Van Der Beek and their six kids - were "amazing", calling him "a pillar of our community in Texas".

"They always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he's not with us anymore," she said.
"Cancer is everywhere, which is why I got this test."
Romano, who also voiced the titular character in popular kids TV show Kim Possible, said the cancer scare was the last thing she was expecting or prepared for having recently returned to work after being shot in the face last February.
The actress was accidentally hit with shrapnel while at a Texas shooting range for her husband's birthday, with fragments lodging in her forehead and behind her eye.

In the caption, the actress said she almost didn't share her news, afraid it would "come off 'cringe'", especially ahead of the release of her upcoming memoir, which was yet to be announced.
"But I decided it was my duty to share, so that people get out there and get screenings," she noted.
"Let's keep the good vibes going and I will keep you all posted as I get more information."
