'Stuck with each other': Formula One driver Alex Albon engaged to golfer Lily Muni He

Formula One driver Alex Albon and professional golfer Lily Muni He are engaged.

The two sports stars revealed the happy news in a post shared to their combined Instagram following of 5 million.

"I guess we're stuck with each other now," Albon captioned the joint post.

Accompanying the words was a loving proposal snap of the couple in which Muni He showed off her glimmering new ring.

Their comment section was flooded with messages of congratulations from friends, colleagues and fans.

The official Formula One Instagram shared well wishes on behalf of the sport, writing: "Congratulations, Alex and Lily".

"So happy for you. Congrats guys," wrote Williams driver Carlos Sainz.

Fellow drivers Yuki Tsunoda, Daniil Kvyat and Franco Colapinto also shared their best wishes.

The couple began dating in 2019 after meeting on social media but it was really their sports that brought them together.

Muni He revealed in a 2021 chat with Golfweek that she had begun watching the Formula One documentary series Drive To Survive when she was "in a slump" which prompted her to follow Albon on Instagram.

It just so happened that he was "getting into golf at the time", Muni He told the publication, so he followed her back and everything else blossomed from there.

"We started talking on the phone. We were both rookies in 2019 and I thought that was extremely cool," Muni He explained.

"Eventually he had an event in the States and afterwards, he and his friend took a little break in LA and that's how we properly met for the first time.

"I know it's a long story, but everyone is always asking how in the world did you guys meet? Small world."

A year later, Albon gave Golfweek his own version of events.

"You could say our interests collided. We met through social media and I was just kind following how she was doing, and she was following how I was doing, and one thing led to another and we met up in LA," he told the publication.

"It was a week after I had a race in Texas. We played some golf together and that's how it all got started.

"We're both athletes. It's a pretty cool place because also, on top of everything, we understand and we get each other," he added.

"We started our sports as rookies and we've gone through tough times together. The highs and lows of being an athlete, I think you can resonate that with any athlete."
