Actor breaks silence after daughter's shock death aged 34

Tommy Lee Jones has spoken out after the death of his daughter, Victoria Jones.

The actress was reported to be found unresponsive in a hallway at the San Francisco Fairmont hotel just after 3am (10pm AEDT) on January 1, according to Media outlet NBC Bay AreaTMZ.

Her 79-year-old father has now opened up about her death, telling E! News on January 2, "We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

"Please respect our privacy during this difficult time."

The San Francisco Fire Department were called to the scene for a medical emergency at 2.52am.

The woman was declared dead on arrival by paramedics at 3.14am, the New York Post reported.

Investigators told local media they don't suspect any foul play, and police are investigating.

Jones is best known for his roles in The Fugitive, Men in Black, Lonesome Dove and Batman Forever.

His daughter made her acting debut in Men in Black II in 2002, before appearing in One Tree Hill and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which was directed by her father.

In 2006, the actor bragged about his daughter's skills to The New Yorker.

"She's a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish," the Lincoln actor told The New Yorker in 2006.

"When she was a baby, I told Leticia, her nurse, to speak to her in Spanish."

Victoria is the daughter of Jones and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley.

He was previously married to Kate Lardner from 1971 to 1978, and later to Dawn Laurel, whom he has been married to since 2001.
