'Sent me to an early grave': The Spotify Wrapped feature enraging 713 million people across the globe
Each year in early December, the world eagerly awaits the arrival of the most telling piece of personal information a person can receive.
We start every morning wondering if today will be the day. Is it finally here? Can I post on my Instagram Story yet?
Well today, December 4, 2025, the world has woken up delighted as we opened our phones and hit play on our morning playlists, only to find out Spotify Wrapped has finally dropped.
It's one of the biggest pop culture moments every year.
We love to learn how our favourite music streaming app perceives us, and even more, we love judging each other's music taste when every person we've ever known inevitably shares their wrap on Instagram.
But 2025's Wrapped is a little different. While our favourite features remain, we've also been gifted with a slew of new ones.
The most contentious being the listening age.

This year, Spotify decided to rage-bait the world, telling each of its users exactly how old they seem based on the music they listen to.
It's a genius and hilarious idea that has resulted in nothing but chaos.
According to Spotify, the listening age compares your musical taste to others in your age group and looks at the release years of your top tracks.
But we prefer to think of it as a brutally honest review of a user's personal taste.
"Mine said I was 28, which in my opinion is the digital equivalent of getting asked for ID when you're walking into a bar with friends," says one 9honey writer.
"I am delighted with it – although I am pretty sure it's just the fact my top songs are all Wiggles, which has brought my age down."
"My Spotify age is 21, which is great given I'm actually 29 and feel totally normal about it," adds another.
While many were aged down, receiving listening ages as low as 19 (that we know of), it seems plenty of people were instead sent to an early grave.
"One Joan Baez song makes it into your top five, and Spotify decides to plunge a knife directly between your shoulder blades," one team member says, revealing their listening age was 70.

But Spotify Wrapped is nothing if not a chance for people to compare themselves to peers, whether it makes you feel better or worse.
"I am 63," added another team member who is (spoiler alert) not 63.
"I was mildly offended until I learned some of my friends' ages, and they made me feel young."
But listening age wasn't the only new feature added this year! Spotify well and truly fed its users with so many different metrics to analyse and perceive each other through.
Obsessive fans have always loved getting to know if they really are as big of a fan as they think, with Spotify allocating percentages of where you stand among other fans around the world.
But this year, it gets even more competitive with the introduction of the fan leaderboard.
While you might think you're a die-hard fan, the leaderboard is here to humble you and let you know exactly where you stand among their listeners worldwide.
(I was in the top 0.02 per cent, which sounded impressive, until I was told I was only the 7924th top listener)
There's also the introduction of clubs, with every Spotify user sorted into one of six.
There's Cloud State Society, for those who find peace through music; Club Serotonin, for those who thrive on good vibes; Cosmic Stero Club, for those who like to travers terrestrial barriers through music; Soft Heart Club, for those who believe vulnerability is key; Grit Collective, for those who are rebels at hear; and Full Charge Crew, for those committed to the endless party.
But no matter what club you were sorted into, how many years you were aged or where you stood on the leaderboard, remember this...
Music is personal, and no one can judge you for what you listen to or how you choose to listen to it.
Unless you use Apple Music. Then we might judge a little.
