Jessie J's tearful confession after breast cancer diagnosis: 'Lowest I've felt in a while'

2025 has not been kind to pop star Jessie J.

In a raw and honest reflection on the year that was, the singer admits it has been the "hardest" period of her life thus far.

The 37-year-old shared a teary-eyed selfie to her Instagram story, penning a heartfelt message of "grief, hurt, pain, sadness and reflection" alongside it.

She wrote that "in a world full of 'everything is fine, I'm happy, I'm good, life is perfect," it was hard to admit she'd been struggling in her private life.

Following a shock breast cancer diagnosis, the Bang Bang singer said she'd recently been "crying a lot," and that sharing intimate details of how she was feeling was an effective way to process it.

"We are not superhuman or meant to be happy and positive all the time. It's healthy and normal to cry, and if someone you love is crying don't say 'oh don't cry' say 'come here.'"

She said this week was the first time she'd had a break from working and public appearances in months, and that everything that had been weighing on her had resurfaced as a result.

"The sadness has all come up this week," the hitmaker admitted.

Jessie J has been candid about her recent health struggles, since revealing she'd been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in June.

The singer went on to openly document her treatment via social media, detailing the highs and lows of the journey towards becoming cancer-free.

She shared that she'd undergone a mastectomy post-diagnosis, and had also had a stint in hospital for a suspected blood clot in her lungs.

Speaking to The Times, Jessie J shared more insight into her procedure and her results.

"I was able to keep my nipple but it's all numb now. And when I bend down it looks like I've got a plastic carrier bag in my boob because you can see the wrinkles," she said.

The singer shared that while the first surgery was successful, she's set to undergo a second, this time focussing on breast reconstruction and further treatment.

But the singer has plenty of familial support throughout this process, with both her mother and partner Canan Safir Colman close by her side.
