Friends cast unite for touching Matthew Perry tribute

The Friends cast have reunited for a tribute to their late co-star Matthew Perry two years after his passing.

Jennifer Aniston, 56, Courteney Cox, 61, Matt LeBlanc, 58, Lisa Kudrow, 62, and David Schwimmer, 59 contributed to a collection of artworks that will raise money for The Matthew Perry Foundation.

The charity shared photos of the cast signing the painting on Instagram, explaining that artist Tim Wakefield turned the soundwaves from the Friends theme song into six artworks inspired by the main characters.

The cast then autographed the sections of the painting that represent their characters.

"Exciting news! The cast has teamed up with Soundwaves Art (@soundwaves_art) and artist Tim Wakefield for a very special collection of artwork this holiday season," the caption of the post reads.

"Tim has transformed the actual soundwaves of the Friends theme song into these beautiful designs each inspired by a different character, and each cast member has autographed their own small run of artworks.

"And in collaboration with the estate of Matthew Perry, we have produced a very limited edition of artworks embossed with Matthew's official signature.

"All profits will be supporting charities chosen by the cast, including the Matthew Perry Foundation and their work helping those struggling with the disease of addiction."

The collection of six original artworks sold for $12,000 ($US8000), with the charity now selling signed prints of the artwork for $900 ($US600) each.

The unsigned prints are going for $150 ($US100). 

Fans took to the comments to express how the collaboration moved them.

"I think I'm going to cry, I miss him so much," one fan wrote. "Damn! Mathew's absence just broke me," another said.

Perry, who played the hilarious and charismatic Chandler Bing, suddenly died in October 2023.

He was found unresponsive in his hot tub in his Los Angeles home.

An autopsy report later revealed that the actor died from the acute effects of ketamine.

The actor had previously been open about his struggle with addiction, which he wrote about in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing in 2022.

Following his death, the Matthew Perry Foundation was established to help others struggling with addiction.
