Confessions of a Shopaholic author Sophie Kinsella dies at 55 as her heartbroken family pay tribute
British author Sophie Kinsella, who wrote the novel Confessions of a Shopaholic that was later turned into a movie of the same name, has died. She was 55.
Kinsella had been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer since 2022, but only made the news public in 2024, prompting an outpouring of support, including from Aussie actress Isla Fisher, who starred in the 2009 film version.

"We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy)," the post read.
"She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.
"We can't imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life.
"Despite her illness, which she bore with unimaginable courage, Sophie counted herself truly blessed – to have such wonderful family and friends, and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career.
"She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received.
"She will be missed so much our hearts are breaking."
Kinsella released her first novel at 26 under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, but after publishing six novels she decided to change track and wrote under her pseudonym.
She went on to sell 50 million copies of her books in 60 countries.
She leaves behind her husband and five children.
More to come.
