Barry Manilow, 82, reveals he has lung cancer and will reschedule shows to undergo surgery
Barry Manilow has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will reschedule his January shows to undergo surgery.
Doctors found a cancerous spot on the 82-year-old's lungs during an MRI, the singer said in a statement posted to Instagram.
The Copacabana singer revealed he underwent the scan because he suffered from repeated bronchitis infections in a span of six weeks.
"Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure everything was okay," he said.
"The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed."
He added that doctors caught it early, and said he won't need to go through chemotherapy or radiation once it's removed.
However, he will need a month to recover from the surgery.

"So that's it, no chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.
"The only follow-up is a month recovery, and that means we have to reschedule the January arena concerts."
The concerts were scheduled for venues across North America.
He added a poignant message to fans, urging them to get checked for "even the slightest symptom."
Fans took to the comments to show their love and support for the Could It Be Magic singer.
"Take care of yourself, Mr. Manilow! We love you," one fan wrote.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery from NYC where we are waiting for your Radio CIty return!" another said.
Manilow's rise to fame was somewhat of a slow burn until he exploded in popularity in the mid-1970s.
His first hit, Mandy, launched his solo stardom before a string of hits followed, including Copacabana, I Write Songs and Can't Smile Without You.
