Darren Hayes reveals new details about horror fall that snapped his jaw in half and shattered 17 teeth: 'I was in so much pain'
Australian singer Darren Hayes has broken his silence around the horrific fall he suffered earlier this year.
The 53-year-old Savage Garden musician has faced a difficult few years but things took a turn earlier this year, when he broke his jaw and teeth during a shocking accident.
"In March, I went to get out of bed one day, and I collapsed three times in a period of seven minutes," he explained in an interview with People.
"I was in so much pain. What I didn't realise was that I'd snapped my jaw in half. I had broken 17 teeth."
Hayes first shared some details about the horror fall with his fans on Instagram in April, but has shared more details now, admitting that his memory is still a bit fuzzy.
The singer recalled attempting to stand up and clutching onto furniture as he attempted to make his way to the bathroom, which is where he fell face-down onto the tiles.
"It was like one of those stress dreams we have where we lose teeth," he explained.

"I was spitting teeth out, still in denial about what had happened to me, and thought, 'Oh, my boyfriend's coming home from the gym in 10 minutes. I look terrible. Let me just tidy up.'"
Hayes' partner, Heriberto, is an emergency room nurse and rushed home after getting a text about what happened.
Heriberto found him laying a pool of blood on the bathroom floor and likened it to a "murder scene".
He was rushed to hospital where he was immediately taken in for surgery on his jaw, which resulted in it being wired shut for three months.
Hayes added that he still doesn't know what caused the fainting spell that resulted in the injuries.
He was wearing a heart monitor at the time, and it showed no signs of a heart attack or cardiac event, there are no issues with his arteries and ultimately they think it was just stress.

Hayes has shared some details about the recovery and accident on social media, revealing the staggering cost of his medical bills in September.
He shared a photo of one bill, and explained it was just one of many he had faced – despite having good insurance – with the total for his recovery around six figures.
"I could add it all up but with my dental repairs etc it's been about 100 grand," he wrote.
When the Truly Madly Deeply singer first shared the news of his fall on social media he admitted he was "so lucky" that he was found.
"I could have died if I landed in a different position," he added.
