US singer breaks silence after fleeing off stage mid-show and failing to return

US singer Brandy Norwood, of the music duo Brandy and Monica, confused fans when she hastily walked off stage in the middle of her concert and failed to return for the rest of the show, leaving her sister to wrap it up alone.

She has now broken her silence in a statement to Instagram explaining just what happened during her and sister Monica's Chicago The Boy Is Mine show.

"Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support and – most importantly – your prayers," she wrote in the statement addressed to her "dear fans in Chicago".

"I sincerely apologise for the abrupt end to last night's performance in Chicago," she continued.

"After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritising my wellbeing was of the utmost importance."

During her performance alongside her sister, Brandy reportedly walked offstage without addressing the crowd.

Fan-captured video shared to X showed the apparent moment Brandy left the stage not to return.

Monica completed the show on her own.

"I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling OK," she continued in her statement.

"With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production, I really appreciate everyone's best efforts."

The singer proceeded to thank her sister for managing the situation and "stepping up with such grace and professionalism" and the "entire crew for their continued care and support".

Monica explained that after leaving the show, which was held at Chicago's Wintrust Arena, she went to "see a doctor nearby" and has "taken the proper precautions to help moving forward".

"Your understanding, patience and unwavering belief mean the world to me," she added.

Monica concluded her statement writing, "I look forward to returning to the stage – stronger and more grateful than ever – alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis."

The music duo are currently on their The Boy Is Mine tour which is named after their '90s hit of the same name.

They are due to perform next in Indianapolis before performing several tour dates throughout the United States between now and December.
