Naomi Watts honoured by 'dear friend' Nicole Kidman as she receives star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Naomi Watts has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The English/Australian actress' legacy was immortalised during a star-studded ceremony in Los Angeles and, while she wasn't able to be there in person, her "dear friend" Nicole Kidman found a way to show her love.
"Now she wasn't here but Nicole Kidman was here in spirit," said Nine US correspondent Reid Butler who attended the ceremony.

Butler explained that a letter from Kidman, who recently split from her husband of 19 years Keith Urban, was read out during the ceremony.
The Aussie actress "called Naomi one of her most cherished friends and said that this honour reflects all of her brilliance and her kindness," per Butler.
Kidman wasn't the only star who took a moment to celebrate Naomi and her decades of success in the industry.

Jack Black, with whom Naomi starred in the 2005 film King Kong, attended the ceremony to celebrate his friend and colleague.
"They were mucking around on the star clearly proving they're both very down-to-earth," Butler explained.
Actor and director Edward Norton, who worked with Watts on the 2005 film The Painted Veil also praised his colleague for her down-to-earth nature.
He expressed that from the moment he saw Watts' performance in David Lynch' Mullholland Drive he knew that a star on the Walk of Fame "was an inevitability" for her.
"You will never have more fun than making a film with Naomi, she is the highest talent to lowest pretention ratio of anybody," he continued.
"She is truly a testament to the best of our craft and our industry and her love of it has never diminished."
Watts' husband Billy Crudup and her son Sasha Schreiber were also in attendance for the ceremony.
Watts has received the 2,825th star on the famous Hollywood strip acknowledging the industry's biggest stars.
As she accepted the honour, she took to the stage to share her gratitude to "everyone who helped [her] get to this moment".
She also made a point to personally thank Kidman, who she referred to as "an inspiration from the North Shore of Sydney", for her "kind words."
"She made a dream seem tangible, her encouragement along the way has always been my north star, I love you Nic," she added.
Speaking to Watts after the ceremony, Butler asked Watts how her connection with Australia helped shape her incredible career.
"I mean, hard work," Watts said frankly.
"Australians know how to work hard and keep their heart on their sleeves at the same time."

While she was born in the United Kingdom, Watts moved to Australia as a teenager where she began her career.
After brief parts in commercials, Watts landed her first role in For Love Alone (1986).
Her breakout roll was in David Lynch's 2001 thriller Mulholland Drive.
She is considered one of Australia's great Hollywood exports.
