George Michael's estate speaks out ahead of Taylor Swift's album release after singer interpolates his iconic song

Swifties are eagerly awaiting the release of Taylor Swift's new album, The Life Of A Showgirl, which is just hours away.

And ahead of the highly-anticipated release, the team and estate of late iconic singer George Michael have spoken out.

Swift, 35, has reportedly interpolated Michael's hit 1987 track Father Figure into her song of the same name.

In a statement shared on the late singer's official Instagram account, the team said they were "delighted" when Swift and her team approached them.

"We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael's classic song 'Father Figure' into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album," they wrote.

"When we heard the track we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists and we know George would have felt the same."

They added: "George Michael Entertainment wishes Taylor every success with The Life of a Showgirl and Father Figure."

Underneath, fans commented, with some saying it's great his music will pass on to a new generation of fans.

Swift's new album is set to drop October 3 at 2pm (AEST) and is her 12th studio album.

Just two weeks ago, the newly-engaged star announced a film based on her upcoming new album is coming out, with the film being called Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

The film has a limited release date, October 3-5 internationally.

"I hereby invite you to a *dazzling* soirée," Swift began in her Instagram announcement post, underneath a poster image for the film showing her in an elaborate red costume and feathered headpiece.

She also told her fans what they can expect from the cinema date, including getting to see her new music video for the song, The Fate of Ophelia.

"You'll get to see the exclusive world premiere of the music video for my new single 'The Fate of Ophelia', along with never before seen behind-the-scenes footage of how we made it, cut by cut explanations of what inspired this music, and the brand new lyric videos from my new album The Life of a Showgirl ❤️‍," she wrote.

"Looks like it's time to brush off that Eras Tour outfit or orange cardigan… Tickets are on sale now. Dancing is optional but very much encouraged 💃."
