'Peace offering': Miley Cyrus forgives dad after feud with heartfelt song

The Cyrus family has publicly made amends after a years-long feud between Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Miley posted a clip of her new song "Secrets" to her Instagram with a caption explaining that she had written the song for her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus, aged 64.

"This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved," she wrote.

She revealed that musical legends Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood feature on the song and thanked them for the feature before finishing the caption with:

"This song is for my dad."

Billy Ray took to his own Instagram posting a slideshow of videos of him and Miley, with a caption thanking his daughter for the "best birthday gift a dad could ask for."

"Thank you Miley Cyrus for Secrets... a song straight from your heart to mine.

"The memories we've made together mean the world to me, and seeing you soar with your music makes me prouder every single day.

"Having Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood on this track is pure magic.

"Here's some memories through the years with Miley... hope y'all enjoy this as much as I do."

The pair have had a difficult relationship for years, mostly sparked by the divorce of Billy Ray and Tish in 2022, who were together for 30 years.

The rift was further deepened by Billy Ray's engagement and short-lived marriage with Australian singer Firerose, aged 36, and later his relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, aged 60. 

She had spoken about how difficult it was for her to see her dad move on after witnessing how hurt her mother was by the divorce.

The pair mended their relationship earlier this year, with Miley telling The Interview podcast that she was happy for her dad and Hurley.

"At first, it's hard because the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, 'Yes, that's your dad, but that's just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy."

"So my adult self has caught up."

Her mother Tish remarried in 2023 to Australian actor Dominic Purcell.
