Why Uma Thurman avoided action roles for two decades
Uma Thurman has opened up about her iconic role in Kill Bill and how it shaped her career – but not in the way you would think.
The 55-year-old spent two decades avoiding anything to do with action films after portraying assassin Beatrix Kiddo in the 2003 film.
"I did anything but, many times," she told Sunday Life.

"I didn't grind out a whole bunch of follow-up action movies because I felt I had done something significant in the field. And it was fun to not overplay it,"
Though she acknowledged with a smile, "But at the same time I can't stay out of it forever."
The actress will be picking up the swords again for her new project, The Old Guard 2.
In it, she will be playing a 5000-year-old immortal called Discord who engages in battle with a fellow immortal, Andromache, played by Charlize Theron.

Luckily, she hasn't forgotten the skills she learned preparing for her Kill Bill roles, having to train eight hours a day for three months.
"Thank God for that, because I signed on quite late for this project so I didn't have time to do proper training," she said.
"Fortunately I had put in hundreds of hours learning how to hold a sword.
Though its been twenty years, Thurman is confident she can pick it right back up. "You may not be limber and strong," she explained.
"but if your brain has learnt how to memorise sequences of movements, you can get back in that zone."

Thurman's children are now following in her footsteps – namely Maya Hawke, 27, and Levon Hawke, 23, whom she shares with her second husband Ethan Hawke.
She is also mother to Luna, 13, whom she shares with financier Arpad "Arki" Busson.
