Chad Michael Murray shares near-death experience that led him to future stardom

Chad Michael Murray has opened up about his near-death experience at age 15.

On the Great Company podcast, the 43-year-old shared that in his teens his intestines had twisted.

"I was hospitalised for two and a half months. It was a lot," the One Tree Hill star said.

Even though he underwent surgery, he suffered internal bleeding where he "lost 50 per cent of my blood."

"I was on my deathbed," the actor said.

He doesn't remember much about the experience as he was "in and out of consciousness", only remembering "visions" such as that of his father and a priest standing at the end of his bed, discussing his last rites.

"My organs shut down because you have blood all coagulated around them," Murray added.

"I had to have a second surgery to clean everything up."

"They gave me a blood transfusion to save my life, my nurse did and saved my life."

While one nurse saved him then, another secured his future.

He recalled speaking to another nurse, Alana, who was also a model.

"She says, 'Oh gosh, you should model.' And I was like, 'I don't want to model. I want to be an actor. Like, I love film and television. Like, I want to I want to give this gift to other people," he recalled.

"And she's like, 'Well, you can segue. You can segue from modeling into acting.'

"She's like, 'Look, when you get out of here, I'm hooking you up with this modeling company I know." And she meant it."

Her advice put him on the path to entering a modelling competition, an acting competition, eventually securing an agent and becoming a star.

After his breakout role in One Tree Hill, Murray was known for roles on Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek, A Cinderella Story, Freaky Friday, and more.

He is now a father-of-three, sharing a nine-year-old son, eight-year-old daughter, and two-year-old daughter with his wife Sarah Roemer.
