Taylor Swift remains by her dad's side after he undergoes major heart surgery

Taylor Swift has reportedly been by her dads side these past couple weeks as he recovers from a major surgery.

People has confirmed that just over a month ago, Scott Swift, 73, underwent a heart procedure.

A spokesperson for the singer told TMZ that Scott underwent quintuple bypass surgery, adding that Taylor, 35, along with her brother Austin, 33, and mum Andrea, 67, were with him throughout the entire surgery and recovery process.

During a recent check-up doctor's reportedly found something that led to the operation, however People confirms that the procedure was not the result of a heart attack.

A spokesperson for Swift told Rolling Stone that "Scott is doing fantastic!"

For many, a parent undergoing heart surgery is a hard thought to grapple with, however in a 2019 essay written for Elle magazine, Swift shared that she had to "learn how to handle serious illness" early on.

"Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again," she said.

Taylor has never revealed when her dad battled cancer or what kind it was, but she did share that her mum Andrea Swift, 67, was originally diagnosed in 2015.

While it was never confirmed what kind of cancer Andrea was first diagnosed with, when Swift revealed that the cancer had returned in 2019 fans soon learnt that doctors had found a brain tumour.

There has been no update on Andrea's condition since, however she has been seen regularly at Taylor's concerts and attending Taylor's partner, Travis Kelce's, NFL games.

When Taylor released her seventh studio album, Lover, on August 23, 2019, she dedicated the track Soon You'll Get Better to her mum.

On the track she sings, "In doctor's-office-lighting, I didn't tell you I was scared / That was the first time we were there / Holy orange bottles, each night I pray to you / Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too".

She shared at the time that the song was so personal that she considered leaving it off the album, adding that it was "a family decision" to release it in the end.

When she first shared news of Andrea's cancer returning in her 2019 essay, she shared that her parents' health battles had made her reevaluate her priorities in life. 

"It's taught me that there are real problems and then there's everything else. My mom's cancer is a real problem," she said.

"I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now."
